Our Weekend Getaway

This past weekend Phillip and I (for once) had nothing on the agenda, so we decided to pack up and head to Louisiana for a couple of days.  Phillip's friend, George, has a camp in Sweet Lake, Louisiana.  George was nice enough to let us hold down the old fort.  His only instruction was that we properly care for his cast iron skillet :-) it was the least we could do.

We loaded up the car Saturday afternoon and headed east.  Phillip and I were both so excited to go spend some time together in the country.  We stopped at the store on our way in town and bought the ingredients to whip up a man's meal of steaks and potatoes.  Devin and his girlfriend, Kelly, came out and had dinner with us.  We had lots of fun and hit the sack pretty early to get some sleep before we woke up the next morning to go fishing!

I haven't ever gotten to go "fishin' for reds" with Phillip.  It is his (somewhat new) favorite hobby.  For those of you who don't know my husband, he's a man of MANY hobbies.  He loves to hunt, fish, wake-board, golf, etc. He'll be the first to tell you that he loves the camaraderie as much as the actual sport :-)

Here are some picture from our weekend:

Right when we got to George's camp, I couldn't help but get the camera out :-)

What is it with boys and tractors?  I don't think I've ever seen Phillip so happy.

This is on our way out to "the spot".  It was freezing!  The wind was blowing 25mph from the North.  The boys said that those were definitely not ideal fly fishing conditions, but it didn't seem to make any difference that day...

First cast of the day.

First catch :-)

 Devin's turn.

Turns out Devin has been fly fishing and spot casting since he was 12!  It was really cool to get to hear how he got started.  That's what happens when you put a woman on the boat...we ask too many questions :-)

Phillip's biggest one yet.  This thing was huge!!

On our way back to the camp for the day.  They caught 11 on fly.  Phillip says it's the best day he's ever had out there.  I'm so glad I got to be a part of it.

I had more fun than I ever expected hanging out with Phillip and his buddies at the camp.  Spending a quiet weekend in the country will do wonders for the soul...I don't know why we don't do it more often :-)

I hope y'all have had a great start to your week!  I'll be back soon!!
